Custom sewing for individuals with distinct style
Frequently Asked QuestionsQ: I found a dress I like in a store. Can you copy it for less money? A: Most of the time, no. Most clothing you buy in retail stores are made dozens at a time by factory workers. The manufacturer purchases the fabric in large quantities at a significant discount. A custom clothier makes garments one at a time, specifically for you. By designing, fitting and finishing the garment for each client, she makes a better product, not a cheaper one. Q: What is the advantage of having a dress custom made? A: A custom-made garment will fit better, and will have the design and detail you want. If you have very particular tastes, prefer better fabrics than are available in ready-to-wear, or have a figure that is challenging to fit, a custom garment may be worth the investment. Q: How much does a custom dress cost? A:Every project is different, so it is very difficult to give estimates without knowing teh details of the project. For an appointment please contact me for a consultation. Q: Can you alter or redesign a dress? A: Yes! There are many changes, both minor and major that can dramatically change the way a dress looks on you. Along with traditional alterations, I've removed sleeves, shortened trains, changed necklines and added trims to make a dress into the "perfect dress". Q: How quickly can you get my alterations done? A: My turn-around on simple alterations(such as hemming pants) is 1-1/2 to 2 weeks. More complicated work will take longer. Q: Do you charge for consultations? A: Yes. I charge $30 for the first hour consultation. The $30 is applied to the cost of the project, if you decide to proceed. |
